Humans have been using enzymes for centuries. In 3000 BC, malts were used for brewing beer in ancient Mesopotamia. In 800 BC, calf stomachs were used for cheese making as written in Homer's "Odyssey". These are the examples where enzymes from plants and animals were used.
Digestive enzymes discharged from organs to excreta were used for leather tanning, wood washing and stain removal.
